Best schools in Europe

Hi there,

I want to start studying physiotherapy next year. Could you help me with some doubts?
1.- What are the best schools in Europe?
2.- How many years takes to graduate.
3.- The requirements I have to meet to apply.

Hi Marie,
your questions are difficult to answer, so I'll just try to give you an idea as to why this is:

1.) this depends on which languages you are fluent in
2.) this depends on the school/ country: either 3 or 4 years; also: do you refer to study as in a BSc in physio or a diploma in physio ?
3.) this depends on the school; every school has got different entry criteria and you need to contact them directly for an application package/ information


Hope this helps a little. Maybe, if you could narrow "Europe" down a bit, that would make it easier to answer the question.

I guess I refer to Western Europe. It could be UK and Ireland, Scandinavia, Benelux, France, Spain, Germany, Austria, Switzerland… :-)
I know it’s quite a big territory… but I don’t mind the place or language if I get a good education.

Hi,
the British unis do a three year BSc, the Scottish and Irish a four year one. The schools are all of excellent standard, it depends on personal preference, I guess.

I don't know much about the other European schools, but for the fact that
- most of them offer diplomas (Netherlands do a 4 year degree and some German schools offer a combined German/ Dutch degree) and
- you have to be fluent (and sometimes pass a language test prior to application) in the local language, i.e. English doesn't cut it in a Spanish Physio school

Well,

About your questions, I can add a school for you. I am not sure whether you are German ( I am), so my answers will reflect that cultural background a little.

It is a physiotherapy school in Amsterdam, and is taking place at a public school (whereas a lot of physiotherapy schools in Germany, for instance, are private).

The language throughout the course is English, and that needs to be proven beforehand. If you have had a western-european education that allows you to study at a university, that is already quite good.

It takes three years. Usually, to obtain the Bachelor of Health (whichi s what you will get here), it takes 4 years. BUT the last regular year, which consists of a long internship, is split up into 3 times three months that replace the summer holidays of the other three years. You can do the internship in whatever country you want. It needs some organization though.

It is in English (even though Dutchy-English, so they will not teach you, but they will learn you).
People from all over the world participate. All continents, all skin colours, a lot of different age groups.

I like it, and the level of education is good, a spicy mixture of academics (not as high as in a university) and practical stuff (teachers are experienced). It is intense, and is a challenge. Yet rewarding.

As for whether being the best, I don't know. Some of our students went to Australia, some to Ireland. You can take a lot out of it, and the degree is of higher value than for instance a private school 3 year program in Germany.

I am looking for physiotherapy course BSc at the moment. I went to the HVA web, and i do have some questions to ask you.

About the internship in 4th year, you have to do one in Netherlands ? I only can speak english, do you think the language will be the problem?

After completed the 4 years course, will i able to join the physiotherapy association in any country?

There is another college in Amsterdam, it called Saxion university, do you know anything about it?

The last question, how much it cost to live in Amsterdam.

Hello there, Im currently in the same predicament. Ive been looking for advice on the schooling in the Netherlands too. Im a british citizen in need of a career change and Physiotherapy seems right up my street. I however would like to broaden my horizons outside the UK as I have been living here the past 30 years. As far as I can see there are a few schools available there....Font's, Hanze etc...any advice as to whether my degree there would put me in good standing to practice elsewhere in Europe or further afield such as the States etc..in the future?

any feedback, advice would be greatly appreciated!!
