Objective Markers for treatment
Hi Everyone,
Im a second year physio student and im currently on a repiratory placement, although im finding it a little difficult to find out about objective markers for me treatment. For example i am aware of the BORG sclae for WOB - does anyone know of any other scales, tables etc that i could use within my treatment?
Thanks
Re: Objective Markers for treatment
there are many objective markers but a few that are easily available in an in/out pt setting are;
SaO2, RR, Auscultaion, AGB's and CXR (if you are able to get before and after), these are just a few of the commonly used ones, but each department/ hospital will have more of less depending on current practice.
there are lots of other measures listed in Alex hough text book, this is a good book to read on any respiratory placement. :D
Re: Objective Markers for treatment
Other objective markers commonly used include the 6 minute walk test (6MWD), Incremental shuttle walk test and endurance shuttle walk test. All three of these tests are standardised, objective measures and have been validated (especially 6MWD which I believe is endorsed by the American respiratory society).
I think there is also a borg scale for muscle fatigue (can be handy especially for pulmonary rehab as fatigue has been shown to be higher in a COPD population.)
Hope thats some use,
Rach
