Pain in ACL repaired knee
I had an ACL repair back in 2001 (left knee). Since then my knee has been about 80-90%. Since, I played a number of sports including basketball, tennis and skiing with no major issues.
Few weeks ago, I played tennis (1st game this season) and I believe I pushed it to hard. The day after the game, the knee started to hurt ( no swelling just a kind of discomfort pain). This pain faded away in about 5-6 days almost completelly. I played tennis again next week, but the day after I got the same pain. I am not sure if this is a serious issue or I just need to take it easy for some time until the knee gets better completelly.
thanks!
P.S. I have scheduled appointment in about a week, however any advice/opinion is appreciated.
Re: Pain in ACL repaired knee
Hi,
When recovering from an injury it is not uncommon that individuals often do not prepare themselves for the physical demands and stresses of high intensity sport.
Any individual beginning sport has potential of aggravating the tissues involved in any activity.
Being cognizant of previous injuries should allow one to understand that the joint will probably have scar tissue and muscle weakness or imbalance that may predispose it to greater injury.
Ideally one would want a sport specific warm up and mobility programme
