Just wondering what people think the future is for us as Respiratory Physiotherapists (or whatever we want to call ourselves)? In the current climate of the NHS where there are redundancies and Respiratory Physios being asked to provide evidence for what we do do you think there is a future for us? I think this is particularly pertinent in ITU where there is not a lot of evidence, many hospitals can't recruit Senior Physios into ITU and the post is lost. Is this happening outside the UK too?
you r parfetly right there is less less less and less chance for the Respiratory Physiotherapists in the india also . there r very feu hospital where the Respiratory Physiotherapists r engage.most of them work as a teacher in college.

The Effectiveness Of Breathing Exercises And Bronchial Hygiene Therapy Which I Provide For The Patients. Clinicians Easily Do Bal To Clear The Secretions But When I Try To Prove My Expertise Through Pd And Bht, They Question The Efficacy And Ask For Evidence Based Approach Which Is Not Easy To Provide.
Another Field I Attempt To Keep Myself Going In The Clinical Setup Is 'pulmonary Rehab'. Since It Is Hard To Get The Patients Involved Into The Program, Life Is Becoming Hard For Me To Survive In The Hospital.
Is It A Responsibility Of A Physical Therapist To Do Spirometry And Other Investigations? Im Being Involved In These Investigations And My Clinical Exposure Gets Less.

I Disagree that Respiratory physiotherapy is a down going field
I have been working in this field for the past 5+ years (around the world)
I believe the problem is physiotherapist generally does not look for evidence
there are enough and more evidence for us to continue our work.
More over very few physiotherapist read journals and articles and keep themselves abreast of the develpoments in their field
Very few physiotherapist are again interested in conducting research and bringing out research output in their field of study.
When physiotherapist start reading journals and conducting very good research then and only then we will be able to stand up to other professions and do justice to our profession.
