discoid meniscus surgery

i had an surgery in December 2008 on my left knee for discoid lateral meniscus tear. now i can walk but not comfortable and still my left leg muscles are very weak. i am very worried about this. i was not regular in exercise. now how can can i gain strength in my left leg.
