Physio Graduate with Temp resident visa looking for sponsership
Hello, I'm Al and I am currently planning to arrive in NSW within the next month, i have recently completed my Degree in Physiotherapy at Southampton Uni. i have a two year tempoary resident visa and am planning to live in areas such as woolangong, tathra or marimbula, as my fiancee has family in this region. i am looking for a graduate post preferably within a hospital where i can gain experience in a range of specialties. i am a mature student (34) with an enthusiasm to master my new career path.
if you can help me with advice, guidance and maybe an offer i would be very grateful.

Hi Al,
Congratulations on gaining your degree from Soton!!! I'm a Soton Grad too and I'm waiting for my Visa for Temp work permit in NSW. It is probably a good idea to get in touch with the NSW Reg Board to find out about their criteria for working in the region. I understand that you need to have at least one year's post grad work experience.
All the best to you and your new career path...
Best wishes,
:o)

Hi Alastair,
Just out of curiosity about the temp resident visa you are having.
As far as I know, a temp resident visa allows one to work in the country. However, to work as a physiotherapist, you still have to go through the registration i.e. including the accreditation process and examinations. As you said you are now 34, you will not be able to get the working holiday visa which only offers to people who are below 30 and they can practice without the need to go through the process. I think there will be chance to work in a hospital with a physio background e.g. PTA (not quite sure if PTA is regulated in Oz) but I don't think it's legal to hire you as a physio before you get the registration. I think NSW has the same policy as other states except WA is slightly different.
That's why I am wondering what type of temp resident visa you are having.

i am engaged to an Australian, so have a spouse visa, this gives me 2 years until i can become a resident.
hope that clears things up
kind regards AL

struggling to gain employment here in NSW. my advice to anyone who is still in the uk and planning to head over here is to get your years experience, with all the documentation you can muster (CPD coming out your ears etc) then get a sponsor.
i have a great contact in my local hospital ( the head of the physio dept) and we are trying every route to get me working with no joy. As a PTA (which i thought would be my plan to gain exp) you are not allowed to touch patients, and because of that it can't count as experience for registration.
oh well back to the drawing board
