Decent head rests for wheel chairs
Hello,
I am a product design student in my final year, and for my final project I am looking at tackling a specific problem that I have encountered through experience.
In August 2008 my uncle had a stroke. While in a rehabilitation centre the physiotherapists there who tought him to walk again said that there are not any decent head rests for wheelchairs. They said that there is nothing to support people who have not got complete control of their head. Also, there is not a head rest that is adaptable to fit all.
I was wondering if you agree with this problem? Is it a real need?
Are there any good solutions to this problem, that are already available?
Cheers,
Joe
Re: Decent head rests for wheel chairs
Generally an occupational therapist or a wheelchair specialist would be the one to ask that question to. Try contacting the hospital and talking to them. Wheelchairs aren't traditionally a physio equipment so unless that physio that you spoke to had extra training or good experience with them then they may be misinformed. I don't work with wheelchairs so don't know. I have a good friend who is a wheelchair and seating therapist and I'v never heard her complain about this problem.
I respect it's been a few months and you've probably already sorted it. Sorry to not reply sooner.
