self directed learning

I'm a first year physio student doing a project on self directed learning (SDL). I would appreciate any suggestions on components in physio curriculums of SDL strategies. Also whether or not any of these strategies have been useful in a clinical setting. Did your university degree assist you in becoming a "life long learner"?? Any comments would be helpful.
