PEP

With regard to Bubble PEP - can anyone tell me why it is that we use 10cm H20 as the amount of pressure to provide. Have tried to find studies but am unable to.

Also, has anyone had any experience using Threshold PEP from Philips Repsionics. Apparently the TGA is not wanting us to "engineer" things ie. Bubble PEP and we are looking at a cheap alternative.

whats the TGA? that sucks, bubble pep is great. easy to do with a milkbottle and a bit of surgical tubing - never had any problems with it in the hospital before.

Anyway I checked Pryor and Prassad and can only find 1 referance for 10-20 cm H20 - Positive expiratory pressure (PEP) mask. In: Pryor JA (ed) Respiratory care. Churchill Livingstone, Edinburgh, pp 51-63.

Not sure how that works - appears to have been published in pryor's previous book?

The TGA is the Therapeutic Goods Administration and here in Australia, rumour has it that they don't want us "engineering" things outside of their intended use...hence Bubble PEP. I don't know if there has been any specific directive as yet.

Threshold PEP is about $18 per unit and is available from Respironics. I know PariPEP allows for a mnaometer to be attached to measure accurate amount of PEP. Was just wondering if anyone else has had any experience with them.

Does the reference your are talking about in Pryor state where they get the figure 10-20cmH20? Just wondering where this magic number has come from.
