physio on a working holidays visa
Hi everyone,
I am hoping to travel and work in Oz from September 2010 on a working holidays visa. By the time I get there I will have completed 16 months of junior rotations in medical, stroke unit with neuro outpatients, MSK and vascular (ITU/HDU/surgical and amputees) as well as 6 months as a senior on the stroke unit with neuro outpatients.
This experience considered. I was wondering how easy it is to find physios willing to act as supervisors to fulfil the requirements for temporary registration. Also what areas of physio and the country they are.
Any information from anyone who has been through the process from either perspective would be fantastic
thanks
Re: physio on a working holidays visa
Hi,
I am hoping to do a similar thing to you and head out in Sept of this year for 1 year, hoping to work in Sydney within MSK. I've been keeping an eye on the latest temporary registration process as I'm sure you've been discovering about the change over to the board of Autralia instead of it being governed by the individual states. It now looks like the host has to write to the board to say why they have a need for us to work as well, so it looks like even more paperwork. I was wondering if you had had any luck in finding out any more information as to how to go about doing this as i noticed your post was put up in 2009 and you were obviously a bit quicker off the mark than me.
thank you
Claire

Hi Claire55555
I am not very knowledgeable about the availability of supervision, particularly under the new federal registration. Perhaps someone else in Australia can fill you in on more details. However there remains a shortage of physios working in Australia so the job market is really in your favour. What about approaching one or more of the job agencies seeking physios as they may be motivated in getting you on board and may help negotiate a supervisor. These agencies advertise on this website and also SEEK - Australia's no. 1 jobs, employment, career and recruitment site is a good source
