help understanding mri scan please
Hi please could you advice me on my
mri scan , first ill just advice you what happened , i woke 2 wks ago couldnt move, to twitch my foot was so so painfull, though i new that my bladder was filling and i was very uncomfortable i didnt have the sensation to want to go ,
called doc at 8am who came at 2pm was sent to A&E by 999 was told possably cauda equina .
Was taken to a essesmant ward was told by doc on ward that they were waiting for me to be transfered to st georges hosp as he didnt want to touch me for a emergancy MRI , had a cathiter fitted which was a releif.
later that evening i was told that i would stay where i was and was taken for a mri scan the next afternoon all this time i stayed on the trolly i was in so much pain to breath hurt . mri scan showed loss of hydration of the discs L4/5 /T/ L5/S1 levels .At L5/S1 LEVEL the morphology is complicated by loss of disc height endplate oedema and moderate sized posterior central disc prolapse, Disc material is impinging upon but not displacing S1 nerve roots,
after the MRI results i was told that they were waiting for a bed for me at another hospital , i was not moved cathiter remained. 3 days later another doc done his round told me that he was puting me on (mst) morphine and some other drugs and sending me home , Catherter removed morphine given was got on to my legs walked a few steps told to get dressed was putting into a holding room on a chair to wait to be picked up , was then given discharge letter for my GP recommending the Gp do a follow up .Gp has gone mad about it my back is still breaking legs ache like hell keep going into spasm still have problems with toileting having to realy relax one minuite loss of control another time . i am moving around but know when enough is enough have a burning feeling lower back just above my buttock, evan my foot aches , i am finnaly going to see someone on the 13th jan but any advice in the mean time please :(

Re: help understanding mri scan please
After your are properly diagnosed and treated your physio would have to examine you and then give you proper rx
You would have to strengthen your core muscles, and abdominals and postural muscles..
surgery could be a possibilty but only a Neuro-surgeon would be able to comment upon that.
Yes with a Lumbosacral belt and proper posture and muscle strength you should be able to get back to work..
i hope and pray you get well soon..
God Bless

Re: help understanding mri scan please
You need to get a second opinion. If you continue to have bladder dysfunction that is not normal to you then you definitely need to be undergoing some form of treatment, and treatment not just for pain as for the bladder to be affected required some type of mechanical interference. That said something to reduce compression, swelling,mm spasm may help that but you would want to see things revolving fairly quickly.
Can you work not send you to someone private? Sounds like A&E got it right by admitting you but then you got lost in the system :(

Hi ,
one min i am waiting to be moved to another hospital the next im told im going home , catherter was removed no checks to see if any bowl or movment in the bladder hadn,t opened bowels by then for 5 days as pain was so intense,:o
doc went belistic and has put in a complaint , my GP has arranged a emergancey appt on 13th jan at St Georges hosp specialists for backs
i have a phisio appt next day depending on what is said .
i was already of work sick with glossapharal facial neuralgia again waiting to go to Barts london Hosp , ( these are not connected problems are they being this nerve is close to the top of my spinal cord ?)
Re: help understanding mri scan please
I am amazed that you havent been referred urgently to a neurosurgeon for evaluation of the nerve function to your bladder. The longer this is left the more chance of permanent nerve damage. This is more important than the severe pain that you are experiencing which should subside with correct management.
I have noticed that your posts were in January.... what has happened since then??
Re: help understanding mri scan please
I agree with vam44 - have you had surgery or at least an opinion??
Cheers
