Hi,
Does anyone know any techniques for working on core stability in children which is interesting enough to keep their attention?
It depends on how old is the child is and the child's interests I usually give a task for the child while performing facilitatory techniques I usually use NDT-STA (sequenced trunk activation) which I modify for the child :) It would be useful if you can share more information regarding the patient :P
Dear Winger,
If you know them, the PNF trunk patterns are great fun. Have used them a lot and they are very effective in improving strength.
Another way is using roller boards, you can let the child roll around on his/her stomach, back, kneeling, on all fours, lots of fun stuff.
Using certain yoga exercises and exercises used in karate and dance are fun for kids as well. And there's lots more....... use your imagination and make fun games ...
good luck

You will find a range of ideas for strengthening trunk muscles in different positions, for babies, toddlers and older children at www.skillsforaction.com
Remember, that training trunk stability and strength is specific to the position and type of task - this is a basic principle that must always be kept mind.
Also that good postural control is about often anticipation - and this can only be trained in activities that require the child to anticipate perturbations. You will also find more about this at Bench sitting: analysis | skillsforaction.com
