Patellar pain!
Hi, everyone, please take the time to reas this....
I Have had ongoing knee trouble for the last 16months or so now, I Never had any pain in my knees when younger playing football nearly every night etc.
From what I can remember it started when i used to run with my boxing club in my sparring boots. The pain then started in my knees when running and driving sitting etc (chrondomalacia signs) it used to get so bad i used to get out of the car like bambi! once my legs had straigthened and relaxed the pain would ease quite abit.
I have seen the physio and he said it was my feet and sorted some orthotics for me once i had let the swelling go down (few days) i felt i was able to run again the orthotics having one leg longer than the other, and he also mentioned i had ridicously tight hamstrings which i couldnt see myself, the orthotics did enable me to run slightly further but the pain was still almost imminant when running.
Its really weird becuase i can go to the gym and use the bags,cycle,and even stairclimb, ok not as flexible as i would like to be but i can manage it without too much noticeable pain. But when it comes to running the pain just starts immediately, could this be to an imbalance maybe hamstrings or quadriceps? i seem to be stronger on hamstring curls than quad exstensions but i think this is down to the pain of exstending the leg.
Can anyone help its got me so down recently as i love boxing and the working out as a whole and its really ruining me tbh i feel like an 80 year old when im only 20! thanks very much for any help.

It is very, very uncommon to see someone with a true leg length difference. So I would want to make sure that this is not a pseudo LLD which is really a malalignment in some way of the pelvis/low back area. You also seem to have overactive hamstrings which might also relate to the same.
It's true you might have some local patella issues but this does sound a touch neurological. I'd get someone to look into the low back region, even have some deep tissue massage in the area. Keep wearing suitable footwear for running and see what happens.

firstly thanks for replying, what would you reccomend for now should i stick too low impact like my stationary cylcing and bag work for now and alot of stretching? i will contact the phsio this week and make an appointment thanks again Aaron.

Hi...All. what was the diagnosis from your physical therapist (PT)? just curious and how much treatment have you had?. Did you have any low back pain at all? has your PT examined your low back and pelvis?

Have you done lots of good quality quadriceps strengthening? Try to find a physio to do some lateral releases to your leg as well.
Sounds like you should continue the hamstring stretches also
