What is the general perception of a locum particularly in private practice?
Does anyone know the average rates of pay for locuming?
Thanks.

In the UK they have a big range, depending on the institution in which they are employed and which recruitment company they are working for.
I have recently seen ranges from about £18/hr for a new graduate to £25/hr for someone 10 years post graduation. The recruiter would then make something on top of that so for a senior physio it would not be uncommon to be charged up to £30/hr for a recruitment company to provide that type of service in the UK.
To add to that, most locum firms pay loyalty bonuses and even holiday pay now if you stay with them for a period of time. Working as a locum can be a very lucrative work, provided you're not too fussy about the sort of work you're doing.
If you're lucky you'll get exactly what you're looking for, but I ended up doing community physio for a couple of months, which was not in my plans.
One advantage is that you get entry into a number of different departments and hospitals, so you can have a look at them and they can have a look at you without having to commit to a full-time contract initially.
