imobilized for 6 weeks-was I cheated
7 weeks post op on a weber c with dislocate and fracture of tib and fib I am hobbling around with the aid of the cheapest cam walker on the market. Lots of pain for like the first tens steps then it smooths out. My question is when the doctor gave me the cam walker why was n't I told -hey this is going to raise your leg up two inches. one of the secretaries just drops it off in the room, then leaves, so I end up getting the walker on and I start hobbling around with my crutches. I had to ask the lady that makes the appointments what exactly to do. She gave me more info than the doctor. I went to the local hardware store and bought some stiff foam blocks and just taped them on the bottom of my good shoe. After that extra lift, oh, it was like a whole new lease on life. I find this incompetent at best that these cam walkers being prescribed with out and elevator aid for the other foot.

After surgery with a plate and 8 screws i was put in a temporary cast for 2 weeks, then on to the hard cast for 4 weeks.(weber c w dislocate. I asked the doctor to put me in a removable cast so I could move my ankle. Well he was not open to the idea, at all. Said it needs to stay clean. I know how to care for surgical wounds. He said, you will pull the stitches. No doc, I have 1000 of stitches over my life, having never pulled one. No, it is a hard cast for you. Now I really feel cheated, my ankle would have never been this stiff if I was allowed to move it after surgery. I should have bought a temp cast of the internet and cut the hard cast off myself. Live and learn.
