Recovering from a Jones fracture - pain in foot & ankle
Hello!
I broke my foot last August and had a 5th metarsal fracture that would not heal.
Anyway - my specialist advised non surgery - I had 11 weeks in plaster and 7 in a boot.
Then it was a case of rest (out of plaster) as much as possible - to enable the bones to fuse and heal. I also had a CT scan a few weeks ago - which showed that the bone has now healed.
Specialist advised me to be careful on it and not to go mad due to new bone, nerves etc.
So....I am not long back at work and now seem to have done something to it. Not sure what and I cant tell if its my foot or ankle - but I am in agony.
I dont know if I am holding my foot too stiffly when I am walking to counteract the pain, which is putting pressure on the muscles & tendons in my ankle. They in turn are pulling etc. Or if indeed I have done something to my foot.
The pain is worse when I try and turn my ankle out to see where the pain is. It is very very sore.
My worst fear is I am going to be in plaster again.
I dont know whether to try and contact my specialist (as I have been signed off by him now), Doctor or A& E??
Any suggestions?? thanks x

Why do you have to search for the pain? Sounds not to serious and you should stop trying to provoke symptoms. After a long immobilisation it will often become sensitive to new movement as the body beings to release the restrictions due to the non-use. Remember it is the brain causing the pain and not the foot/ankle. Interesting that you can't really define what is causing the symptoms. Sounds referred or neurolgical therefore. Take it easy, wear good supportive footware and let us know if it doesn't resolve over the coming week or so.

Hi
Thanks for the reply - I am wondering if its actually tendonitis. I have to drive 26 miles to work and obv 26 miles back.
Its all motorway but this will surely have an effect if I have been doing only short trips til recently.
I had pain before that seemed to come all of a sudden and would build up until its unbearable and then go off. That would last a few seconds.
I am going to go to the doctors tomorrow to get it checked out as the pain is quite unbearable at times.
