what's the averge of session can physiotherapist manage or deal
in the shift ( 8hr ) inpatient or outpatient ? :)
And Is there a specific role for this issue ? :)
Other Q. If hospital have 50 bed and many depatements ( cardio - Polm - ICU - Onc. - Neur)

I don't know if I understand your question but are you asking how long is the expected physiotherapy session.
We have a saying "how long is a piece of string?" So it is with physio sessions. It might seem a simple question but there is quite a lot to consider There are many factors and there isn't just one standard time. Here are some factors:
- the system you work in. Different countries have different expectations. Likewise some public systems are quite generous about what they can offer while others have to ration physiotherapy
- The money involved often matters. If an insurance company is paying a limited amount or a patient is paying a fixed amount in a private practice this may affect how much of a service is offered
- the clinical area. In neurological rehab in our country patients may receive 45 minutes of sessions and in some cases twice a day. Whereas in MSK outpatients some places may offer 30 minute sessions while some places only offer 15 minute sessions.
- Another factor is that some services are offered individually while group sessions may mean less individual time put more time overall.
- the philosophy of the therapist may play a role. Personally I think it a MSK context 30-40 minutes of quality rehab is adequate.that way there may be time for manual therapy, specific exercises and maybe also a general fitness component in some cases, as well as patient education. Of course that doesn't mean I couldn't be seeing more than one patient in that time. But some practices offer a much shorter and may only offer manual therapy for example.
- Initial sessions are usually longer than follow-up sessions.

We work eight hour days generally. In private practice some physios may work longer hours. But not in the hospitals.

For hospital work you also need to consider that
a) most of them these days offer a weekend service/ shifts for respiratory and orthopaedic patients and
b) most have an on-call rota (= after hours call out service) for respiratory clients
The policies for weekend and on-call criteria and working hours for these services will differ in different hospitals.

Hi!!here in Botswana what we normally do is that all follow up appointments in outpatient are booked in for 30 minutes!!new patients generally take longer, upto 45 minutes.
With inpatients the time slots are not that strict, depending on which ward you are working in.You generally tend to see more orthopaedic pt's in an hour compared to medical or surgical patients...
generally speaking i would say 15 follow up pt's in outpatients will be a good number, what does everyone think?

Here in Palestine I work 6h in shift in pediatric hospital
5 patients each session 30 to 40 min most of case cerebral palsy
and neurological case and this in outpatient clinic
and sometime I work at inpatient, we have inpatient clinic may have daily 3 to 6 patients most of them need chest physiotherapy.
I get 400$ and we work streat morning and one day weekend ( friday)

your post is a little difficult to understand.
Do you see 5 patients in each 40min session? Or do you see 5 patients a day for 40 minutes each?
Which currency is you $?
In NZ, a full-ime job = 8 hours/ 5 days (Monday - Friday).
For most hospitals, an additional weekend day (Saturday or Sunday) is compulsory.
We get 4 weeks annual leave.
In private practice = outpatients, sessions can be anywhere from 15 minutes to 30 minutes long, occasionally, 45 minutes are allowed. This gives you anything between 15 - 25 patients.
On a rehab ward, sessions are often generally 45 minutes long = 5 - 6 patients.
Inpatient wards are variable, it depends on what the patient needs (sometimes the documentation takes longer than the actual treatment :)), but commonly, around 8 - 10 patients are seen. On top of this are team and ward meetings and time for in-service training etc.
In the Community setting, you usually see 4 -5 patients in an 8 hour day.

I working every day 5 patients ( cerebral palsy ) treatment session
passive streching, strengthening, passive ROM ex's and general activities
such as rolling, sitting, crawlling and standing and that' most.

Im Madzhar a Filipino Physiotherapist working in Qatar. I have basically the same question that you are asking that is why I was eventually led to become a member of Physioforum (thanks by the way).
In my little search, what you are probably asking has something to do with the concept of patient acuity? Meaning, the amount of care the patient needs. There is a considerable amount of research concerning this issue in the Nursing profession. I am yet to find a study determining the patient acuity in relation to physiotherapy service.
In just about three hours, I found out that FIM (Functional Independence Measure) has been used by nurses to measure the amount of care the patient need while others used other measurement tools such as Northwick Park Dependency Score (NPDS).
In my understanding what you are asking is "How many treatment sessions does a physiotherapy perform in a single shift?" Or in other words, how many patients a therapist see per day. Right?
Believe me this is exactly what Im searching for as well. Many colleagues have already given their answers and it varies from what type of setting are you working in. Apparently it should vary from outpatient, community, in patient and Rehabilitation wards.
Here in Qatar, our hospital maintains an average of 8 (ranging from 7 to 10) patients per therapist per day regardless whether one is inpatient or outpatient. This I find a bit inappropriate given the level of PT care the patients need.

Like you, I did'nt find specific resource or research determine the time I could spend durig session and how many patient physiotherapist could deal

Answering for the main question :
I manage daily 17 patients (10 in-patients and the others are out-patients) and think it is too much more than my capacity especially all of them are CP
i do manual therapy more than electrotherapy so for that i myself have to be energetic and fit...
we should not over burden ourselves with patients and should give home care plans to those who do not need daily therapy.
there should be atleast 2 therapists for each 50 bed ward...
eg in cardiac ICU with 10 beds there is an average of 8 CABG surgeries daily for which there should be 2 therapist in ICU.
similarly in neuro and cardiopulmonary departments.
:) but this doesnt happen in all hospitals i have seen over burdened therapist in all setups and then those too with back ache :P
