The Sides of my calf muscles hurt, am I overdoing it?
I have just joined and am looking for some advice please.
Last year I ran 2 half marathons and only recently found out I had been running in the wrong trainers (the shop advised me to have these trainers!)
Anyway, I went and had a GAIT analysis done and it turns out that with these trainers I was running inwards. The insides of my calves started to hurt which is why I went to see the GAIT people in the first place.
After being filmed with my old trainers and a new set of trainers with extra padding on the inside to straight me up(!) I was bouncing along and feeling very happy.
Because I want to run some more half marathons and possibly a full marathon next year, I have upped my training somewhat. I have gone from one week of Boxercise to training 4-5 nights a week!
The sides of my calves are hurting again  and I wonder if I am just overdoing it?
I went to circuits last night and they were hurting, but not enough that it stopped me from training. Towards the end of the hour session they started to ease slightly and when I jogged back they were OK. Walking doesn't give me any cause for issue at all.
Could it be the hard floor that I was training on that cause this?
Could I be wearing the wrong trainers again or is it the fact that my muscles are being used due to the new trainers and its just a case of my legs getting used to them?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Many thanks ~ Jo

one week of boxercise to training 4-5 nights a week. am i overdoing it?
eh yes. you need to gradually increase training load not rip straight into sessions every night. gradually. it doesnt matter what trainers you're wearing, if you're doing far more than your muscles are able for you're going to be sore.
there are a lot of decent running sites around that give detailed training plans for working towards different distance runs. take a look an see.
Re: The Sides of my calf muscles hurt, am I overdoing it?
Thanks for the input, I kind of guessed that would be the case, I knew i was over doing it but I have just got back into the swing of it.
I knew that when I was running 20 - 25 miles a week last year the back of my calves were hurting, I was over doing it.
I spoke to the GAIT people and they have suggested two pairs of trainers as the ones I am currently using are designed for running whereas doing circuit training etc., they do not have the relevant support?
Do I need two pairs or do you think they are just trying to get more money out of me! :D
Re: The Sides of my calf muscles hurt, am I overdoing it?
i've never needed two different types of trainers. then i've never visited a gait lab either. sometimes you can overcomplicate things.
i have decent running shoes (a famous brand with a swoosh!) and i wear orthotics in them for slightly pronated feet. i also wear these playing basketball, in the gym. i certainly dont feel that i need a different pair for when im not running.
