pain after 40 mins lower back calf
Hi.. I am new here and new to what seems to be a rather odd injury. I am hoping that someone here can give some suggestions or share experiences.
Sat typing this I am in no pain, nor am I when I cough/sneeze/sleep/drive/sit at a desk. But after walking for around 40mins, I get a dull pain in the centre of my right calf.. it's bearable at first but gets worse, then the pain starts in my lower back, right side below the waist. After about an hour the pain is so unbearable to walk on that I simply must sit down and as sooon as I do, like someone has flicked a switch te pain goes. After a short rest I can walk again pain free, but this time and after I won't get 1 hours before it's too bad to continue. I had a knee op in June which is all fine, I told the orthopaedic consultant about it and he said the pain is coming from your back. He suggested physio, which I have done for 3 months, which has made no difference at all so far. The physiotherapist agrees with the OC adding that I have adverse neural tension.
I am a 41 year old male, correct weight for age/height etc. I don't smoke and go to the gym 4 times a week and swim after.
I would be delighted to hear if anyone knows why this pain onlt starts after 1 hour or so ad stops as soon as I sit ?
Best regards
Steve (UK)

Sounds like you need to be checked for
spondylolisthesis causing some nerve claudication A normal xray would be a start,

Hi there - I agree with Vam44 in getting your back investigated closer. However - your history with the knee-op - it could also be some post-op problems - compensation etc. Your calfmm issue could be ischaemic, which then leads to compensation and the back pain. Maybe if you do have some spondolysis/spondolysthesis issues swimming may not be good - not breast stroke at least. Keep up the work in the gym - but beware the your back may have an issue.

What has the physio done for you specifically in your sessions? It would be good to know if there isn't something missing from your back rehab.
