Manipulation using the foot

Dear all,

I read an article in Frontline in the UK some time ago about an Australian physio who manipulated the back and spine using the ball of her foot.

Does anyone have any more information on this please?

Don't know but it sound a relatively 'armless way of going about it!

Seems the article was written by Sarah Key (famous for treating Prince Charles)

The foot, like the knee can be used effectively for manipulating the thoracic spine. You can do this by having the client in sitting or long-sitting, ask them to place their hands behing their neck for support, and using the breath ask them to arch over your feet as you sit behing them placing pressure on the appropriate thoacic region/s.

That siad perhaps the best massage and manipulation of the body with the foot is the Chavutti-Thai Massage. I have experienced this and it is definately to be recommended.

Just replying to your question last year re: Sarah Key who in fact does use her heel to mobilise the spine and treat patients with back pain- with very good results. She runs courses on her techniques which are held in the UK and Australia. You might want to look at her website for more infomation www.sarahkey.com and she has also written some interesting books- ' Back Sufferers' Bible', 'Back in Action' and ' Body in Action'.
