Best position for feet - Shin Splints
I am a little confused having read two seemingly conflicting bits of advice elsewhere about shin splints (my condition is also causing foot pain and
severe cramps of the left foot). One said a night splint should help which keeps the foot at a right angle to the leg and the other said sleep on your side and point your toes. Opposites I think?
I am 54 female not a sportswoman but have been very fit and active.
A severe leg cramp which I tried to manage by pulling up my toes as shown at school actually ripped my calf muscle badly and over some months waiting for physio with NHS has caused a condition which is like shin splnts with swelling over the tibia, pulling on my knee joint ad into my thigh and groin. I think the buzzing like a phone in my left abdomen might also be connected.
Strangely the foot pain is less when I bike rather than walk ( I dont drive and I am still waiting for physio appt).
having bought a night splint I want to know if this is the right thing to use atm?
Having read some of the other shin splint posts I think I should add that 35 years ago I fractured L5 15 years of pain therein and now have an apparently painless 
spondylolisthesis..also more recently cervical spondylosis was found on x ray but it does not hurt atm.
I feel better by trying to help myself until I get seen but want some clariification about the night splint..I dont mind if it does not help as long as it does not make things worse. what do you advise?

I have discovered by accident that if I wear my knee support as a calf support with an ankle brace I get more relief..a jagged blue shadow is appearing down the length of the shin but a little to the right of it like a trailing feint grey blue bruise.
