return to sport guidelines following tibial shaft #
Hi I have been trying to find info on the rehabilitation and guidelines for return to sport following a closed complete transverse fracture of the upper distal 3rd of the tibia. The was very little displacement and no fixation or surgery was needed.
There does not seem to be any specific guidelines in terms of return to playing sport (soccer). The patient is a 30 year old male.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Re: return to sport guidelines following tibial shaft #
there are very few return to play assessment guidelines for any injury!
just check that R=L for strength, balance and rom (at the ankle, knee and hip), basic functional tests like squatting and jumping, then sports specific stuff like running, quick changes of pace and direction, kicking a football with various parts of the foot. If everything is pain free and the xray is clear then no worries, let him resume full training for a couple of weeks to get his fitness back then gradually re-introduce him to games.
Maybe im wrong but i dont really see what else a guideline could say about this, thats what i've been doing i've had a couple of similar lower limb fractures in my team.
