Volar plate repair of thumb

Hi,
I am currently in my second week of pot after surgery for volar plate repair of my thumb. The injury was over 18 months old by the time of treatment and it was a complete tear and the surgeon used 2 of the dissolving screws to re attach. I am in pot for a total of 6 weeks then physio. I am a firearms police officer and want to know should I get my full grip back for use in my job.

Providing the only structure injured was the volar plate (and not neurological) then correction of the joint mechanics should lead to a normal outcome and normal functional strength. You do however have to be patient with such a delicate repair!
