Hey i am a student currently on my paediatric neuro placement treating a 10 year old child with athetoid cp and i am looking for ideas for a treatment plan I am currently using selective reaching in supported sitting, holding head and limbs to midline facilitated weight bearing walking. The child is very dyskinetic and handling can be an issue so any helpful ideas people can give me would be much appreciated

What are the treatment goals, meaning yours, the parents and the childs?
Treatment ideas cannot be made without knowing what the problems are and what the goals are.
So please tell us some more.

yes i agree with esther,we need to prioritise the patient problem list initially. with the available information that you have mentioned, i would say , core postural muscle avtivation has to be encouraged to enhance controll of head, neck and trunk .This stability postures are important for transfers and sitting.The principles of increasing resistance during the movement to slow down the motion are used and the basic principles like,using compression during handling.some therapist prefer use of weights as well.. focus on encouraging slow onset of muscular activation during movement, since the child is dyskinetic this may be challenging. i would rather focus on activation of core postural muscles rather than the movement of extremities. activation of extremities makes child very uncontrollable . voluntary activation of extremities are dicouraged as it aggrevates the dyskinetic movement...
