What do you believe are the "core" muscles and how is the best way to activate them?
What do you believe are the "core" muscles?
How is the best way to activate them?
I am interested in responses from both physios and the general public...
Re: What do you believe are the "core" muscles and how is the best way to activate them?
core muscles are those which take part in stabilization more rather than in producing movement. deep muscles of the back and neck are considered core muscles and isometric exercises are used to activate them. a pressure cuff can be used to note the strength of isometric contraction.
progression is made by challenging the muscles with weights in upper or lower limbs first in lying, then sitting and then in standing keeping the isometric contraction of the muscles.
:)

Thanks for your reply :) I hope others reply as well - it would be good to see what others think

I am a recent graduate, still learning this inspiring theory.
From my understanding, the "core" muscles are ones providing segmental staibility along spine during functional movement.
To activate the inhibited muscles through motor control learning rather than"strengthening". Most important, the activation training should carry out during functional activities at later stage.
Re: What do you believe are the "core" muscles and how is the best way to activate them?
yes chen .... core muscle training is progressed to the level of function ....that will keep the posture correct in ADLs
:)
and have you done DPT or its BSPT?
Re: What do you believe are the "core" muscles and how is the best way to activate them?
Thanks all - to clarify, do you believe that the "core" muscles for the L/S and
SIJ are...
1. Multifidus
2. Transversus Abdominis
3. Diaphragm
4. pelvic floor
?
Are there more or less?
