Rate of pay

Can anyone give me an idea of what to expect in terms of rate of pay in private practice in NZ?

I have 5 years post grad experience

Also for public hospitals what are the salary levels?

For public hospitals - most employ their staff under a collective agreement, as agreed with the union. Negotiable is your starting rate only. Commonly, they categorise into Junior = Rotational and Senior staff. We do not have a structured scale here, like in Britain.

In private practice, it all depends on demand, your postgrad courses/ masters etc. and negotiating skills.:D
Best indication will be the payment offers on job websites. Salaries are rather secretly discussed in NZ ...

I just makes the whole thing rather difficult to negotiate a salary when you don't have an idea what your worth (well roughly anyway!).

Yes, I know - I also find it really difficult.
Guess, an hourly rate somewhere between NZ$25 - 30,- (if you work in one of the major cities) might be a starting point.
Private practices have had a really difficult time over the last year and most of them have reduced staff massively, due to the changes from ACC. Therefore, they will be able to tell you what they can afford to pay you and you just need to see what your best offer is. Mind you, jobs are scarce.
And in hospitals, your rate will depend on how much responsibility you're going to have. They will pay you the same they pay other staff in similar/ equal positions.

The way the job situation is at the moment, you might just need to take what you get and then go from there.

I already have some part-time work, but need to fill out the rest of my week. I had no idea of what to expect in terms of wages. I am finding it very difficult (in part due to location) to find more hours and also because i already have something then am not very fliexible. fingers crossed:D
