I am currently studying MBBS but I will like to become a physiotherapist in the near future. I will like to seek advise from all of you on how I ca fulfill this goal of mine.
Can I study Msc physiotherapy after MBBS and work as a physiotherapist? How should I approach this hurdle?
Please feel free to share. In desperate need of answers.
Thanks a lot :)

Basically yes. Look for the universities you would like to apply for and see what their entrance requirements are. You can do a search on specific areas of the UK here

Re: Studying Msc Physiotherapy after MBBS
I am shocked to know it could be possible to go for Msc Physio after MBBS in UK.This is not allowed in my part of the world.BPhysio and DPT are all entry level physio degree. So u must first be a physio b/4 u can pussle MscPhysio.
Allowing other medical proffessional to do 1 or 2yrs of physio training and confer them with MscPhysio will be counter productive for our profession and altimately errod the prestige and honour of this beautiful profession. I am sure Medicine will never allow such in med schools.
UK schools and physio body must check this out.yelufem.
Re: Studying Msc Physiotherapy after MBBS
There has been a fair bit of debate about the whole Msc thing over here. Still, there it is and I think it's here to stay. There are still Msc courses over here for physios that want to specialise further in their areas, and these are typically 1 year full time.
Re: Studying Msc Physiotherapy after MBBS
Ironmike, the situation to me is quiet disturbing. I do not want individuals who are not passionate about our profession to use it as coast of save haven just for financial gain without indepth knowledge and savvy.
I know some UK versities run MscPhysio for individual with first degree in physio related field, like exersice physiology or human kinetic. This to me could be permitted but with a lot of caution and the year spent should not be overcrowded.
Admitting individual with MBBS is to me unthinkable and physio body must take heed less it would back fire.Just my shot.yelufem.
Re: Studying Msc Physiotherapy after MBBS
I'm not sure you can say that someone with a degree in physiology is better suited to physio than someone with a MBBS. I think that in the future we are all going to have to accept much less of a clear boundary between professions, and this to me is a good thing. I think that physio has to adapt alongside other professions in order to survive. For instance, I would love to be able to inject steroids for severe muscular pain, but this is something at the moment only doctors and a few high level extended scope practitioners can do. I don't think that allowing other professions to do a fast track conversion to physio is a bad thing as long as standards are kept high. In the UK, I don't think there are many people converting to physio to make a quick buck! The job situation is pretty bad...
Re: Studying Msc Physiotherapy after MBBS
Hi Ironmike. Medicine and physio are both developed on different philosophies.Their scope may overlap in a way but their focus are mutually exclusive.
Professionals are individuals who exhibit a concept of ideal already internalised thru rigorous acquisition of knowledge. This knowledge overtime shape their thinking and views about issues and procedures.
Individual emaging health professionals is expected to demonstrate a given concept of ideal and reasoning. This then form written or unwritten boundaries within which individual could function effectively.Nevertheless overlap of ideal abound in our practices across board but the core value and ideology of individual body of knowledge remain sacrosant.
Therefore overporousity of the boundary would negate the concept of professionalism and disrupt diversity of ideals.
Creating a fast track physio program for individuals with different ideological background may not create the kind of mind we all dream for the profession. And may ultimatly errode the professional focus and identity.
Extending the scope of our profession is awesome but this is possible without 'marriage of convinence'. Physio body of knowledge grows everyday and our role in healthcare cannot be more obvious. We need to guard our rears in our haste for survival and quest for relevance in the future.yelufem.
