US DPT translating abroad question? and a possible concern?

Hey everybody, I am transferring into local uni's exercise phys program which carries into a DPT. I (plan on, would like to, hopefully will) be moving Europe after graduation.

from the research ive done thus far, it seems that I would need to try and get my DPT recognized. Largely the PT programs in many EU countries tend to be Bachelors. Anyone have experience with how it translates? If it ends up being easier or harder, do they treat our DPT as equivalent to their 4 year?

Now for my concern, I keep reading about how there is a huge shortage anticipated for PTs in the future, I see alot of jobs available here in the US, in CA, and also in Aus. But next to nothing in the EU it seems, and it pops on and off the shortage lists. Anyone have any insight into this?

In the UK you need to be registered with the Health Professional Council (HPC) to work as a physiotherapist. It would be best to contact them direct, www.hpc-uk.org, in order to find out whether your qualifications are transferable and also what you would need to do if they are not.

From a job perspective it's pretty dire in the UK in the NHS. We have many home graduates who do not work as physio's, some do assistant work or try to keep in health care in order to boost their CV, others give up the ghost and get out. Everyone is hanging on to their jobs even if they should be looking at higher banding, and it is not just the graduates. You need to be flexible, private and locum work, whatever helps your CV.
