frozen shoulder
Hi I recently seen a physio and about my shoulder as I couldn't move it. He did a scan of it and he found fluid round the joint and said it was
frozen shoulder.
So he gave me a cortisone injection into the arm as I had inflammation
I had it done about 3days ago and the aching as gone but I still have pain round the armpit like a form of cramp.
The muscles in my arm seemed to of slackened.
Is there a reason why now I have the cramp back from when I first started ?
I still can't get my arm to go completely up or out wards.
How long will it take for the arm to be able to move again
Thanks tracy

Re: frozen shoulder
"
frozen shoulder" is a term used to describe what is known as
adhesive capsulitis; in other words, the capsule that surrounds the joint gets stuck together and restricts movement. The muscles then tighten up around the joint to protect it. It sounds like the cortisone reduced your inflammation, taking away your ache. The actual problem hasn't been dealt with, which is likely why you're getting the cramp feelings again. You'll need plenty of hands-on therapy and exercises to mobilise the joint and encourage movement. progress can be pretty long and slow (lne study showed that 41% of patients still had symptoms at an average of 4.4 years), and can often seem to get worse before it gets better, but stick at it and results are good.

Re: frozen shoulder
hi thanks for getting in touch what is actually causing the cramping at the armpit ?
the muscles have now unleashed and feels like my arm is much longer is that also normal?
also how long does the cortisone stay reducing inflammation ?
thanks

Re: frozen shoulder
Hi,
We are a manufacturer of medical devices. Our device has demonstrated great efficacy in reducing the inflammation in
frozen shoulder. Look at our website www.neurocareeuropelimited.com Where abouts are you? maybe we can recommend you to a physio that is nearby.

Re: frozen shoulder
Hi,
Unfortunately we do not have a physio with our device in that area yet. There is a very good physio in Balsall Common called Physio and Health Matters. They have our device and use it with great success but it is probably very far for you.

Re: frozen shoulder
Dear Tracy,
A the otehr member said, it takes a time till the
frozen shoulder gets better, it can be from 1 year to 10 years...but most likely wont be more than 1 year.
I find acupunture very very helpfull, mainly for the muscle tightness, and apin. Ans if the pain is gone, movement would be easier.
Depends on the state, pasive mobilisation (that ur pohysio does) or a good exercises plan would be best.
Can I ask, how was the onset of it? could u give soem more details?
Greetings

Re: frozen shoulder
Hi Tracy
I'm also too far away to be able to help; however I would suggest going to see a physio (have a look on the physio directory here or Physio2U on the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy website).
I'd also suggest that you need to be stretching your shoulder several times a day. There are a variety of protocols you can use, but the one I use is via the Sarah Key Method - you'll find it in a book called Keep Your Joints Young (this is my bible as a physio and I use it with all my patients). If you have a good local yoga class, that would also be of benefit.
Bear in mind that tight, gummy shoulders such as those you get with
adhesive capsulitis don't much enjoy being stretched and they can be sore and achy as a result, but in the longer term it will get you better quicker.
Good luck!

Re: frozen shoulder
hi Puntanella
im not really sure all i know is dec last year i was helping my disabled mother out of her chair and a bout a couple of days later i started getting cramp in my armpitwhen my mother died in january of this year my arm started aching alot. i put it down to lifting her but also when mom died i helped with my siblings to carry her coffin on to a trolley and when she was being buried i helped them put her in the ground. not longer after that my arm began to get stiff and cramping .
now in june pain begun to be so bad pain killers wouldnt help so my gp sent me to the hospital to see the physio. she said it looks like
frozen shoulder and would proberly need an injection..
last wenesday i had the scan and injection pain got worse after that but now i have gone back to cramp position armpit and top arm. my muscles feel like they have slackened off but i still cant completley take my arm up without a pulling to the top.
i have tried some excercize with a broom handle and gentle exercizes.
i was wondering now how much improvement will i get does exercize improve this?
many thanks tracy
