Sprained Ankle Pain
I sprained my ankle last Thursday and the pain went right up my calf which is still there now.
I have been applying an ice pack and had a compression bandage on for the week but although the pain has subsided slightly it is still there, with the lower leg at the back being the main problem.
Has anyone on here encountered this problem before and can you provide any help?
Thanks

Re: Sprained Ankle Pain
Is the pain on the outside of the calf? It is fairly common that when an ankle is sprained the Peroneal muscles/tendons are damaged as well.
Range of motion exercises such as moving your foot up and down should help and these can be done with your foot in a bucket filled with cold water. Essentially, combining ice with exercises.

Re: Sprained Ankle Pain
You could also have what is termed a "high ankle sprain." When the connecting tissue (syndesmotic ligament) between the calf bones, the tibia and fibula, gets strained.
