can someone help me with anterior and posterior low load and functional load exercises for the cervical spine? I know how to carry out the exercises but I am stuck on the rationale for why this should be done?? is it just to improve stability of the cervical spine after injury??
Recent evidence supports that notion that the role of cervical stabilization exercises (specifically deep neck flexor exercises) is primarily to provide postural stability for the C-spine. I measure DNFer endurance with a biofeedback cuff, and once my patient has developed the proper form and demonstrated endurance (up to 10 mmHg change x 5-10 seconds x 5-10 reps), I may advance on to the cranio-cervical flexion test (although my experience has been that this is very difficult for patients to perform correctly, even if there is no history of cervical dysfunction!)
