reccurent suprapatellar bursitis

Hi,
I have a patient with a reccurent suprapatellar bursitis that has not cleared after rest, massage and stretching, U/S guided aspiration and cortiosteriod. The problem is about 3 months old. that patient has good hip and knee control/stability and as well as good running biomechanics. There is no obvious mechanism so the presumption is that it was caused by a blow to the leg.
They are wanting to return to running and cycling.
It is not painfull when they run or ride but does tend to become inflamed again afterwards after moderate sessions.
any suggestions on treatment dirrection?
is worth getting an MRI to rule out any other causes which may be iritating the bursa?
