My Physio is unsure whats wrong.....

I fractured my talus and had surgery with 2 screws. I am now walking again but not without pain and have been to the physio who is unsure and says he hasn't seen my symptoms before so hopefully someone on here coudl help!

- I have good motion back in all directions except inversion of my foot (the screws are on the outside of my left ankle).
- Physio says normally you have either poor passive movement or poor muscle around the ankle which prevents the inversion movement.
- He says my passive movement is excellent. He can move my ankle (inversion movement) using his hands to almost the same position as my good ankle which led him to believe that I needed muscle stregnthening in the ankle.
- However, after he has moved my ankle with his hands it loosens the ankle up and I can immediately do the inversion movement to 95% Range of motion (unassisted), which he then said proves that my muscles within the ankle are strong enough to do the movement.
- If I sit down and don't move my ankle for even 5 minutes the inversion movement rather than going 95% now only goes 5%. Unless of course I move the ankle with my hand which loosens it up again and I can then go to 95% again.

Any ideas what could be wrong? The physio has told me to keep doing the exercises, but it is now 8 months since the surgery and if as he says the ankle muscle is strong enough what good will exercises do? I don't seem to be getting any better now and because i can walk they won't refer me back to the orthapedic surgeon.
