My knee feels really weak and like it could dislocate, especially when it is straight. It has started to click when I walk and is worse after I have been sitting down for a while. When doing light exercise on it I feel a very slight pain (Tighten) down the inner side of my knee. It seems to have lost full movement e.g It is difficult to completely straighten it back without manually assisting it. Any ideas what this could be? May I add I have no swelling or pain when walking etc.
It could be that you have a section of meniscus (knee cartilage) out of its normal position which is blocking the end of range extension. Was there any injury or activity that brought this on?
It sounds like you may have an irritable meniscus or medial ligament strain. Just because yu dont notice any swelling doesnot mean there is not an inflamitory reaction taking place, which would explain why it is worse after you have been seated for a while. A meniscus pathology would also fit with your complaint of discomfort at end of range flexion and extension of the knee. Has it locked or given way? and is the pain worse going up or down the stairs, if at all?
Thank you for your replies! I was working out doing Zumba which most likely brought this on, I think I twisted my knee in some way. The knee has not gave out or locked and there is no real pain when going up and down the stairs. It just perhaps feels tighter and clicks more. The main symptom is general weakness and like it could dislocate at any moment, not nice. If it is an injury related to the Meniscus or Medial ligament, do you know any treatment for it. Exercise strenthening the knee maybe?
Best to get a knee assessment. Simple mobilizations in varying positions by your therapist should be able to put you back on track. There is not a lot of self help on this one in the early phases as one needs to try and relocate/reposition the cartilage that might be out of place.
