Confused, please help! Limited Registration working opportunities / recruitment agencies in Australia!

Hi,

I have 3 years exeperience working as an MSK Physiotherapist since qualifying. As I specialised straight after qualifying in MSK, it's looking like "limited registration in the public interest" is the only form of registration that seems possible that won't take months and months of revision and shadowing etc. I was wondering if anyone had any information out there on if there are good opportunities in Australia with this form of registration? If so does anyone know any websites / companies that either specialise in jobs with this form of registration, or have useful information on this topic? I'm struggling to find anything that has all the information in one place! I am looking for work in either Melbourne or Sidney.

Any info that anyone has will be greatly appreciated! Thanks,

Hi Dave,

I moved to Melbourne about 9 months ago and went through the NZ route. There are no limited registration jobs anywhere near where you would consider living over here. In my experience the only places that offer limited registration are nursing homes and small private practices in the middle of nowhere (and even they are few and far between). Unfortunately there's just too many physios wanting to work in the big cities so most practices can take their pick. I'd recommend the NZ route, it's time consuming but doable and once you have registration it's easy to pick up a job almost anywhere.

Do you not have to have respiratory/neuro experience to get NZ registration? Im in pretty much the same position as the OP, just been working in MSK and sport since i graduated!

I am a teamleader of 7 physios and I work for a company who employs physios to work in Aged Care Facilities.
We offer limited registration opportunities for physios and we also go through sponsorship for our staff.
The work is a variety of musculo-skeletal, pain management, manual handling training for staff and a small amount of rehab work.

Sorry for taking so long to reply. Yes, you do have to have respiratory and neuro experience to get NZ registration. You don't have to have a lot, just as long as you can prove you meet the competencies. If you've ever worked with any disabled athletes maybe you could use that as your neuro experience? Respiratory may a little more difficult but if you could get yourself onto a weekend respiratory rota of a local hospital you could probably get enough experience that way and then just head striaght for an MSK job when you get to Aus.

Hi Dave, There is always heaps of work for Physio's in Oz. Permanent jobs are hard to get, but you can get as much locum work as you want. You can pretty much stay a locum indefinately at the same hospital if you go to a big one. I know the Royal Brisbane Hospital is constantly short on locums. You have to phone physio departments directly though as no one uses agencies. Agencies will just tend to have a very few shitty jobs in the middle of nowhere.
