Cervical Fusion

Can anyone help with what type of physio treatments work to treat a patient after they have had anterior cervical fusion?

I suppose you should treat them the same as anyone else. Once the surgeon is happy that the stabilization is "solid" then you can treat the neck the same as anyone else (though I am not suggesting manipulation of course!)

I would tend to do a full neurological examination on the and assess their pre-existing issues that required the fixation. Can you provide more input on this. e.g. if it is a longterm degenerative issue or an acute traumatic issue.

If there was prior motor weakness due to nerve entrapment than this might be one starting point. If it is degenerative the how is their thoracic posture (hyperkyphotic?). Overall when the surgery is stable, consider them as you would anyone else. Look for the problem areas/asymmetries in them and address as best you can. Be mindfull of any contraindication for direct neck treatment but then was the neck the issue or the result.
