Task based physiotherapy: Free online tutorial
Dear Colleagues
I am offering a free tutorial series covering the basics of task based physiotherapy children for 10 participants: 5 places for 8 twice a month morning workshops in Cape Town and 5 places for 8 web-based workshops.
The series provides an introduction to Developmental Gym for Children (DG-C) and covers all aspects of intervention including assessment, goal setting, updates on motor learning, motor control, use of functional strength training, insight into the underlying deficits in DCD and impact of joint hypermobility on function.
Physiotherapists completing the series will have access to all the Developmental Gym for Children support materials including assessment protocols, report forms, home programs for children and information for parents.
Cape Town series: Wednesday mornings from 8.30 – 11.30 in Plumstead starting on the 30th January 2013, and then the 2nd and last Wednesday of the month Feb –April.
Web based: Starting February 2013, following the Cape Town sessions, presentations will be posted on the web with an opportunity for online discussion linking all 10 particpants. A Skype chat session will also be organised every 2 weeks.
Who would benefit
Newly qualified physiotherapists who have an interest in paediatrics
More experienced paediatric physiotherapists interested in updating their knowledge and skills regarding task based approaches to intervention
How to apply: the free places will be allocated to the first 10 suitable applicants. Please send an email to [email protected] with some information about yourself and why you would like to participate in the tutorial series.
Closing date: 10 December 2012
Re: Task based physiotherapy: Free online tutorial
An update on the Developmental Gym for Children (DG-C)Tutorials
The first introductory tutorial in this series has been posted. This tutorial is free.
The topic is Why a context oriented task based approach? Advances in our understanding of motor development, control and learning from the latest neuroscience research literature provides a host of new insights into the many factors that contribute to task performance – and how the specifics of motor control are tightly linked to the task and context. I argue that you cannot separate sensorimotor control from the context and task demands. This is why increasingly the evidence points to task based approaches for better outcomes.
Please join an international group of PT's and OT's exploring new ideas for advancing clinical practice and providing the very best intervention for the children and families we work with.
