Arachnoiditis in Lower Lumbar Spine
Hi, I'm treating a 55 year old male who has been recently diagnosed with
arachnoiditis in his lumbar spine (cause seems to be secondary to dye used in multiple myelograms performed previously?). Has anyone treated lumbar arachnoiditis or have any physio treatment ideas for this condition? He has been presenting with a myraid of lower (and upper limb symptoms) including muscular spasms leg muscles, severe low lumbar and coccyx pain restricting sitting, tingling etc in legs, which I'm treating symptomatically. I am considering recommending a short chronic pain management course at this stage. Thanks for your help!

Re: Arachnoiditis in Lower Lumbar Spine
Hi,
I have a 58 y/o male diagnosed with
arachnoiditis of lumbar spine as well. I don't know if this is the same patient that Majorjoy had but he reports the same signs and symptoms. I'm doing pain management, LE flexibility ex and trunk isometrics for now. Any suggestions?
Thanks!
Re: Arachnoiditis in Lower Lumbar Spine
I would look at a range of neural mobilisations from SLR to slump with various arm positions etc. Obviously reassess regularly to see what, if any, assists in the reduction of symptoms. If you can get him to keep a 24 symtom diary and try to work out if there are any movement specific triggers then you can direct you mobilisation to free up mobility in those directions/positions.
Re: Arachnoiditis in Lower Lumbar Spine
Thanks! Having a 24 symptom diary is a great idea so I can narrow it down and see if he's more bias in one position. At this point, patient complains of LBP during all trunk motions.
