Inpatient electronic referal system

I am currently working in a children's hospital in Ireland we are using paper referrals, an incident occurred a few weeks back where a referral was left in the physiotherapy slot on a ward for a day, nothing serious happened but it got me thinking if there was a better way for our physiotherapy dept to receive referrals from consultants and teams in a quicker more efficient way. Does anyone work in a hospital were physiotherapists on the inpatient can receive electronic referrals?
