Living in Perth - UWA Masters
Hey all,
Doing the UWA Masters course, with the internal block to follow soon around September 07. I was wondering if anyone here can clue me in on living in Perth for 3 months. For e.g getting accommodation; how much money I'll need to go without a job for 3 months; and if I do need to get a job how hard that is to do down there in Perth or types of common easy weekend jobs; how busy the course is throught the week; nightlife etc. My circumstances at the moment are working in Sydney as a physio, so whether it's worthwhile to get insurance and registration as a physio in WA for 3 months is something I'd like to know. I've also been looking for accommodation and have found it impossible to get a place on-campus so far. I'm guessing I'd be better off coming to Perth a few days before and trying to look for a place from there?
Any comments appreciated.
Cheers,
Ryan

Hi - good choice - good course with good clinicians teaching it as well as well respected researchers.
Accomodation is not too bad. On-campus accom is best arranged at least year in advance if you want a better chance at getting one. Share Accomodation is better arranged closer to time.
Rego is required regardless.
Working is possible but probably not recommended - up to you.
Social life is fairly good - what you make of it.
Have fun!
Re: Living in Perth - UWA Masters
I have just moved to Perth from NZ and started work and uni. Getting rego is pretty cheap here - like $75 for the year, and mine was processed in a week. If you already have insurance in sydney, wont that be valid for WA as well? So that is pretty hastle free.
Getting around in perth without a car can be a pain, so I reckon I would live on site or close to transport links. Accomo is easy but relatively expensive, www.gumtree.com/perth is a where I found my place.
Perth is fun, pretty chilled out, probably a good place to be to crack into some masters study. I dont know how full on uni will be but if you want work, I have found there is always a bit of weekend or evening work going, you just have to get some contacts here.
Good luck. Hope this is helpful.

Can't help you with accommodation but you need to be registered in each state in which you are working even if you are just doing a course. It would be foolish not to have PI insurance, anyway if you have some for Sydney should be valid for WA - check with your insurer.
