Chest Physiotherapy and Pulmonary Embolism
Just wanting an idea of everyones' views on treating patients who have P.E's. Current treatment is manual techniques are generally contraindicated until anti-coagulants have been started and reached 'therapeutic' range, but things like ACBT are continued.
Is this the same as everyone else or are clinicians elsewhere continuing with any form of treatment no matter what the anti-coagulation status?
Also does anyone know any research on the matter?
Ta in advance xx
Re: Chest Physiotherapy and Pulmonary Embolism
We don't mobilise anyone with a PE for at least a day - dunno any research to support this but that is the protocol where I work. ACBT should still be fine if the person has problems with secretion retention. I wouldn't do anything manual on the patient either.
