I have pain after I fell on my buttock 3 days ago
Hi all,
3 days ago I slipped on the stairs, and while holding with my hand on the rails, I landed with all my weight on my buttock.
And immediately I started feeling a pain right in the middle of my buttock, I think it is on the last bit of bone of my spine.
I thought it will go away, but only noticed it is getting slightly better few hours ago, I can set, but standing is so painful.
At the beginning, I couldn't drive for longer than 10-15min, and getting off the car is a nightmare still, and also it is waking me when I am sleep when I move/turn.
On the day I fell, occasionally I feel I want to vomit when I get into painful position or do painful movement.
I am worried that I might have a broken bone or something, should I give it more time, I am suppose to go back to work on Tuesday.
Thanks in advance

Dear Member,
Did you ice the area? It helps very well for pain. Make sure you wrap it so you don't get ice burns. Try also not to sit more than 30' at a time.
Do you have any other sympts such as bladder/bowel changes, numbness in your pelvic area or any funny feelings down your legs?
Walking aggravates it?
Regards
Nicoleta

Hi Nicoleta,
Thank you for replying, today will finish 1 week having this injury, and I can say it is not getting hugely better, the pain is still there.
In regards to your questions
Did you ice the area?
I didn't, is it too late to ice it now?
Do you have any other symptoms such as bladder/bowel changes, numbness in your pelvic area or any funny feelings down your legs?
Yes, I noticed that my urinating is slow, and if I put pressure to urinate faster I feel the pain increases!
Also, going to toilet use to be once a day, I think now is once every two days, but I don't have problems or pain when I do, just the normal level of pain I have.
I didn't notice any other symptoms
Walking aggravates it?
Not that much, I can walk easily with very low pain, and couple of days ago I went out and I believe I walked more than 2 hours without feeling the need to stop, it is just the same level of pain there.
Thanks again

Dear Sir,
As I understand you don't have problems controlling your bladder/bowels, neither numbness, pins and needles.
It looks like the impact on the bone has caused the pain and this make take a while to resolve as bone bruise tends to take a while.
You should return to work to avoid of side effects of stiffness,ms weakness and try to avoid sitting long times, stay lghtly active.
Ice helps with the pain and you could start some gentle exercises to stretch your lower back and gluteal ms.
Ice will help a lot in regards to pain, 10' application at a time, you can use it several times a day if needed.
Regards,
Nicoleta

Hi Nicoleta
I think you are right in every word you said
I actually returned to work two days ago, and I can tell by the end of the day the pain gets much better.
Also, I usally go to a Yoga, and I noticed that this week's class has helped as well
I still have the pain even after 7 days, but it is slowly getting better, thank you for reassuring
Kind regards
Mo

It's possible you damaged your sciatic nerve. I worked with a woman who had an issue with her sciatic nerve and she felt all her pain in her buttock. She enjoyed sitting on a flat ice pack. She said that relieved a lot of the pain.
Re: I have pain after I fell on my buttock 3 days ago
Hi ALS388,
I still have pain at the area, I visited my GP who asked me to point where the pain is, said it is the coccyx bone, and after few questions about numbness/pain in legs, infection, inflamation and blader/stool control/pain he said that it doesn't seem serious and it will need time to heal, up to six weeks.
He gave me an instructions of exercises to do called (William's exercise) for coccyx bone problems.
Also said to use pain killer, and to come back after 4 weeks if the pain still there or I started to get any of the symptoms above.
So very similar to what Nicoleta already advised.

Well glad to hear your GP doesn't think it's anything too serious. Keep us up to date on your progress. All the best.
