Wrist swelling after cast removed
I had fracture scaphoid that was only treated with cast for 5 weeks. Since cast was removed 6 weeks ago there is still mild swelling around my wrist. It hasn't gotten any better or worse. I only have about 60% range of motion back just from doing my own exercises. Is it normal to have swelling this long after cast removed? I had no swelling before going into cast and I have no real pain now. Is this swelling just a result of the immobilization ?
Re: Wrist swelling after cast removed
I'm not overly sure why it's still swelling but I would get a cold pack on it. Make sure not to overdo your exercises and ice it down right after. It could just be really sensitive right now to any activity with it.
Re: Wrist swelling after cast removed
It would certainly be worth seeing a physiotherapist to assess the wrist fully.
Does the swelling increase / decrease / stay the same when you do your exercises?
Also, is the swelling warm to the touch?
Re: Wrist swelling after cast removed
Hello again still have the same swelling around my wrist so I got another xray to make sure bone was healing and report indicated nothing abnormal about the healing fracture but it noted ostepoenia in the carpal bones. Hopefully that's not too serious
Despite the weird swelling the wrist is slowly getting stronger and ROM improving. ulnar deviation is stuck though get fair bit of pain around fracture site at 50%. Maybe have more soft tissue damage than i think
Re: Wrist swelling after cast removed
I'm sorry that they couldn't give you a better diagnosis. How has it been since your last post? Hopefully better and you're progressing. If not though, here's a recommendation to help with soft tissue damage. It doesn't help heal bone but it does help heal the damage to the area surrounding it. I've used it for my foot and it got me back to 100% in a month and a half. Anyway...just wanted to let you know. King Brand Wrist Injury Treatment
