Working in the USA
Hey, im a qualified physiotherapist currently working in London having graduated 2 years ago with a 2 year MSc in physiotherapy and BSc in Sports Science. I am specialising as a Band 6 in musculoskeletal work and I wish to apply for work in America, particularly California.
I have been doing some research into working in the USA but not found much information about whether my 2 year course plus 2 years work experience is enough to just do the exam or if I will have to do further studying.
Has anyone had any experience of applying for work in the USA as a UK citizens? Any recommendations of how i should go about seeking work in America? How hard is the entrance exam?
Any help would be greatly appreciated
Thanks

Re: Working in the USA
Hey there!
As far as i know, you first need a FCCPT Type 1 review for educational credentials review, health care worker certificate and verification of your eligibility to practice in the UK. Then you might contact the PT Board of the state on which you want to work and fill up a petition to take the NPTE exam. you will get a ATT (i think its called, an approval to sit for the exam). Once you've passed the exam you will get your license (not sure about this in Cali). Once you get your license you would look for someone who would sponsor your visa. Then you wait for your visa to be ready and you're ready!
Its a tough process but at least you dont have to take an english proficiency exam haha
I've been searching on the net and i've noticed that there's some agencies that would contract you and they will sponsor your visa and help with all the stuff and will get you a job in almost any state you want.
Hope this fits to your needs! I also want to work in the US as a PT!
PS: on the fccpt website there's a red bar on the top about the type 1 requirements.. Its very helpful. Good luck!
