Designing for the Arthritic Population

Hi Physios,

I am a masters, Sports Engineering student.


I would like to design a device which allows people suffering from arthritis to perform an assisted squat. A have spoken with some physiotherapists, however I wanted to see if there were aspects of the squatting technique which change when regarding this population. The intention of the product would be to reduce the body weight load of the user. This would allow the patient to squat without putting the same weight baring strain through their joints.


If anyone has any advice, recommendations when designing the device it would be much appreciated.
