NZ Physiotherapy Registration Approved as an Overseas Physiotherapist
Hi everyone!
I am a Physiotherapist with a BSc. Physical Therapy from Jamaica. Here's my timeline below:
1.)
Application Received and fees taken: July 5, 2016
(It took about 3 weeks for my recommendation letters to arrive so the assessment process didn't start right away. They wait until they have all documents first)
2.) Assessment of eligibility completed on July 28, 2016 and they sought clarification from me on certain things specific to the country I was registered in.
3.)Application sent for assessment by the board of assessors August 8, 2016.
4.) Initial assessment completed and more documentation required to fulfill all competencies September 14, 2016.
5.) Extra documentation received by the board on October 3, 2016.
6.) Registration Approved and registration number assigned October 20, 2016.
The board was VERY helpful and VERY fair, at no point did they return my whole application but contacted me regarding any clarification via email. If you anyone has any questions or need help I would be happy to assist you!
Re: NZ Physiotherapy Registration Approved as an Overseas Physiotherapist
Hello there!
Thank you for your post.
I am currently in NZ (I am a PR) finding my way through. I just have a couple of questions for you:
-Do you have a graduate UK University degree or similar?
-if not, did you have to take a Msc degree with autonomous clinical practice somewhere?
Many Thanks!!
Lou

Re: NZ Physiotherapy Registration Approved as an Overseas Physiotherapist
Hi all,
i am a Bachelor of physiotherapy from India with masters done in the UK. I worked in Bahrain for 3 and half years and now moved to NZ.
i have applied for registration to the NZ board and my application has been sent to the assessors.
my question is 1. Are the assessors prompt in responding via email the outcome of the application?
2. How long do they generally take for this step.
Can u send me your email I’d so I could ask you a few questions. Thanks

Hi there,
Congratulations on getting registered :)
I am a physio from India who completed his PG Diploma in Sports Physio recently from Otago University in NZ.
I have a question. How did you explain the fulfillment of the 'Autonomous Practice' competency through your application ?

Re: NZ Physiotherapy Registration Approved as an Overseas Physiotherapist
Hi everyone,
I am a graduated Physio from Italy but with a switzerland 4 years degree, I would like to know how much will take to get the process done?
I am adoing this process cos apparently it seems easier to get the physio degree recognised in New Zealand first to be able to work in Australia later... I have already a permanetn resident Visa for Australia, and i'm willing to move back by the end of the current year or start of the 2020... what will you guy suggest?

Re: NZ Physiotherapy Registration Approved as an Overseas Physiotherapist
Hi Guys,
I'm a little lost here and I'm hoping somebody on this site can help me!
I'm a qualified Sports Therapist in the UK (different to a Physiotherapist as I am only MSK trained) and wanting to know if anyone thinks I will be eligible to apply for Physiotherapy registration in NZ?
I know I can apply to be a massage therapist in NZ as I have a separate Sports Massage qualification but I was hoping to be able to be registered as what degree enables me to do here in the UK.
Any help or thoughts would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Zoe
Re: NZ Physiotherapy Registration Approved as an Overseas Physiotherapist
Hi,
are you HCPC registered as a physio in the UK?
Although I cannot determine this with 100% certainty, I am pretty confident in saying that in order to register as a physiotherapist in NZ, you need to have a Bachelor in Physiotherapy. Your overseas education needs to qualify you as a physiotherapist in your 'own' country.
Registration in NZ is under a 'general scope', which requires you to demonstrate competencies in MSK, cardio-resp and neuro in theory and practice.
Check the Physioboard's website. There's heaps of information for baseline requirements, competencies/ threshol desriptions, etc.
You can work as a massage therapist, because in NZ, this is a non-regualted profession. I.e., no qualification required at all to hold that 'title'.
Good luck,
Fyzzio
