Knee injury. Ligament damage?
Hi all,
I have a problem with my left knee. I had a minor bicycle accident about a year ago, but it still hasn't fully recovered. I visited a GP at the time, but he only sent me back with Ibuprofen. Every now and then, I'd end up pulling it and leaving myself in excruciating pain. This area (front left knee) usually gets swollen (it still is after a pull 2 weeks ago):

The pain usually radiates from the lower part of the circled area. Sometimes more slightly to the right. I wonder if it's a MCL damage or some ligament damage. Does anyone know if it's something that might need surgery?
Any thought appreciated.
Re: Knee injury. Ligament damage?
You might have a small meniscal tear in that area which won't really full heal. This means it is prone to reinjury. It a little far forward for the MCL but it looks right on the joint line. Did you impact the joint during the accident? If so there could be a little bone damage on the top of the tibial as it is exposed in that area. MRI's are rather inexpensive these days so you might look to get one which would then suggest if any surgical intervention would be indicated or worthwhile.
Re: Knee injury. Ligament damage?
Hi not sure if this thread is particularly live but will give it a go.
i am fifty two and started playing the fast growing sport of walking football. Historically I played football or soccer until I was twenty nine and knee ligament and cartledge damage meant an op. I them played five a side in my thirties and damaged my cartledge in my right knee. Playing walking football for the past two years has been fine, but lately had problems with my knees.
A physio mentioned years ago to strengthen the muscles around the knees. I currently cycle and a member of a local gym. Can anyone recommend a specific set of exercises to focus on that will help to provide strength and support for my knees?
may not be connected, but recently changed my football boots. Could this make a difference?
