Upper back injury.Worse after Pyysio.
A few weeks ago I fell backwards in the garden and jabbed the corner of a planter box into my spine. A. few days later I experianced pain in the muscle, a feeling of burning.
I went to the Dr who ordered an exray but nothing could be found as muscle damage does not show on exray. I suggested a Pysiotherapist (My Doctor does not suggest things for anything). He said Well you could try it. I visited a Pysio last week.He dianosed a problem with the end of the bone (I dont remember the latin name he used) and went in very hard with massage and manipulation. Since then the pain has become much worse and is concentrated on the area of the bone when ever I move or do something. My question is should it be worse before it improves. Pysio reccommends twice weekly visits but I dont know wheather to continue. I have never experianced much pain in my life but this is very very painful. I am quite thin,60kls 68 years of age and wonder if he went in to hard and has in fact cracked the bone which wasnt cracked before.
Should I continue with the treatment or will it make it worse? I am just an ordinary man with no medical knowledge so please dont confuse me with long Latin words.
Any advise will be much appreciated.
Thank you.
Re: Upper back injury.Worse after Pyysio.
Hi, it is acceptable that you hurt more after physio, especially if you were sensitive.
You should tell your physio that you had/have more pain. He is the one who saw you, so he can explain you best the causes for your pains. Of course, you can always ask for a second opinion...
I don't believe it is possible to have cracked any bone with his hands, if the box couldn't! That is not a thing to worry about.
It seems you just need to put some ice 3times a day for 10 min, and rest for 5days. Let me know how you recover.
Re: Upper back injury.Worse after Pyysio.
Thank you for your reply. I will let you know how I get on. The Pysio said to use heat rather than ice packs. He has given me some exercises to do but so far no improvement. I know sometimes these things take some time to heal and sometimes never do. I should have said the injury was to the upper back. I think he said it was damage to the facet bones.
