Open fracture dislocation on foot Please Advise

I was in a motorcycle crash, which resulted in a open fracture dislocation on my foot.

Surgery was performed with k wires and a metal screw was inserted in the foot.

K wires was removed after 6 weeks, screw is to be left in permanently.

Its now been 8 weeks, specialist has requested that i stop using my boot and change to a real shoe.

I have to wait now for a few weeks for my physiotherapy appointment.

What i want to know is, should i be trying to walk without my crutchers? can it cause any further damage to the foot? Yesterday i managed to walk across the room slowly without my crutchers but fear it could do more damage.

Could someone also point me in the right direction of some physiotherapy tutorials? Because i really don't want to delay my walking by more weeks just waiting for my first appointment.
