lower hamstring tendinopathy
Hi
I have lower hamstring tendinopathy in both legs and for over a year and nothing works
I've had an MRI and nothing shows up
Its not that painful its like a mild burning pain behind the knee to the outside of the leg and the pain increases is I run or walk for a long period of time and it also increases if I sit for more that 5 minutes
Stretching seems to aggravate it so I'm not sure what to do so can any one give me any advise.
Many Thanks

Hey!
Sorry to hear about your issues.
Sounds like it could be the biceps femoris acting up. Are you feeling anything on the inside or just the outside? Have you checked your lower back? Considering you’re having problems both when you activate it (walking/running) and when you’re resting it, we might be dealing with some type of impingement process in the lower back that’s causing the hamstrings to tighten up and become irritated.
Any numbness/tingling or sharp/shooting pains down the legs?

Hi
Thank you for your reply
The pain is always on the outside and I don't get any numbness/tingling or sharp/shooting pains down the legs.
I do get some lower back pain sometimes but I have always had tight hamstrings
I am grateful for any help and advise
Thanks

Hey,
Does the pain increase immediately when sit down or does it come after a while? Is the pain during the actual sitting or can you feel it more when you get up after sitting?
When you walk/run, is there any sharp pains or just the burning sensation?
When you stretch the hamstrings do you keep your foot neutral? If you try to point your foot down (plantar flexion of the foot) vs. up (dorsal flexion) does that make a difference on your pain?
Take care!

Re: lower hamstring tendinopathy
Hi Eric
The pain does not start straight away when I'm sitting it gradually increases and this is the same when I'm walking or running the burning sensation gradually comes on.
I have tried both methods of stretching and I get less pain when I stretch with my foot in a natural position.
Many Thanks
James
Re: lower hamstring tendinopathy
I agree with Eric. Sounds like nerve related issue and neural stretches will help. Have you had a scan of your lower back? Do you have any lumbar disc issues? Are you doing some core stability exercises? This may help to minimise the symptoms you are suffering. Good luck and hope you get well soon!
